webHancer Privacy Policy

webHancer's privacy policy, revised and effective as of June 7, 2006, covers the www.webhancer.com domain and its software products. Corporate customers are subject to the terms agreed upon between webHancer and the subscribing customer, and are covered separately from this public privacy policy.

Privacy Policy: Customer Companion

Information collected
webHancer collects Internet performance information using a small, transparent program known as the Customer Companion. Users typically download and install the Customer Companion via the Internet. The Customer Companion measures Web transaction performance experienced by users. The data collected is used by Web site operators and network service providers to analyze and improve the level of service that they provide to their users.

Examples of information that is collected are: Web page address, Web page size, Web page load time, Web page completion state and network delay time. Any personally identifiable information collected as part of information contained in a Web site address or URL query string that is received by webHancer is never forwarded to a commercial third party. webHancer does not permit collected information to be correlated with other information to identify the browsing habits of any specific individual. webHancer does not request that users provide any personally identifiable information as part of a registration process or through the operation of its software.

Unique identifiers
Each instance of the Customer Companion is assigned a unique identifier by webHancer when it is first installed. This is used by webHancer to calculate how many unique systems the Customer Companion is installed in. Each instance of the Customer Companion also includes an identifier that identifies the organization that delivered the Customer Companion software to the user. webHancer does not correlate either of these identifiers with any specific individual or computer.

User consent
The Customer Companion does not collect or store any data without first obtaining the user's consent. The user decides if they want to download and install the software. The user can elect to "opt-out" of the installation process, which means the Customer Companion software will not be installed. A user can remove Customer Companion from their computer at any time using the standard Windows "Add/Remove Programs" applet. This procedure is explained in a "Read Me" file that is installed with the Customer Companion. When the Customer Companion is removed, all vestiges of the Customer Companion are deleted (some after re-boot) except for a Windows registry entry containing the unique identifiers specified above.

Security precautions
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, webHancer has put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information webHancer collects online.

Value added packages
Value added packages may be installed as part of the update process for the webHancer Customer Companion. These value added packages are provided subject to the same license agreement and privacy policy as the webHancer Customer Companion. No third-party software will be downloaded or installed on end user computers.

This policy applies to all versions of the Customer Companion. webHancer reserves the right to modify this policy with 30 days notice. Notice will be made by a posting on its Web site.

Additional information related to what the Customer Companion does and how it works, as well as technical support assistance, can be found on webHancer's Web site at www.webhancer.com/support or view the white paper entitled "End User Performance Measurement - A Commitment to User Privacy" for complete details on how and what is measured.
